Deaths Registered in the District of Stillorgan in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Rathdown in the County of Dublin. No. 174: On 8 March 1939 at Lourdes Hospital, Kill O'Grange, death of Rev Thomas O'Connor from 4 Rea[?] St, Tralee, Co Kerry, male, single, 25 years, Catholic Priest; of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, certified; informant: Wm. J. Wills, occupier, Lourdes Hospital, Kill O'Grange, 11 March 1939. --- Requiescat in Pace. The Rev. Father Thomas O'Connor, Catholic Leader, Brisbane, 6 April 1939, p 15: At All Hallows' College, Dublin, in June, 1938, the Rev. Father Thomas O'Connor was ordained a priest for the diocese of Rockhampton (states The Review). He was to have arrived in Rockhampton last December, but shortly before the time arranged for his departure from his native land, he took ill. It was an illness from which he did not recover. With great patience and resignation, he suffered until his Divine Master accepted the sacrifice of the young priest's life. Father O'Connor died on March 10. In St. Joseph's Cathedral, Rockhampton, on Tuesday, March 22, the Solemn Office for the Dead was chanted for the repose of his soul, followed by a Requiem Mass. The Very Rev. Father Dolan, Adm., was the celebrant of the Mass; the Rev. Fathers T. Page and M. O'Connell were deacon and sub-deacon respectively. The Rev. Father M. Sheeran was master of ceremonies and the Rev. Fathers R. Gibbs and D. Keneally were the chanters. In the sanctuary also were the Very Rev. Deans J. Rowan and P. J. O'Keeffe, the Rev. Fathers E. J. Hayes and A. O'Dwyer. His Lordship the Bishop, who presided, requested the prayers of the people for Father O'Connor, who being ordained for the diocese, was one of their own. They had a duty in charity to pray for him and in turn they could rest assured that he would not forget them. It was sad to see a young priest taken from them, one on whose hands the ordination oils were hardly dried. Yet God's Holy will be done in this as in all things. The Bishop extended the sympathy of all to the sorrowing relatives and to the professors and students at All Hallows' College. |
