Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Dillon, Charles Joseph

A Canadian, date and place of birth unknown. Details of education unknown. Date and place of ordination unknown. He was described as 'a Carthusian monk who was travelling the world, and who just happened along. A most charming man, simple and obliging ... he had no conception of time or space ... he was as hard as nails, tough as wire, swift as a hare, fond of excitement. Moreover his duties did not burden him as he had no sense of responsibility'. His first appointment in the diocese was as assistant priest Quirindi (1909), then Bundarra (1910). He left for Rome in February 1911, shortly after a motor cycle accident between Bundarra and Tingha, which resulted in broken bones. It is believed he re-entered a Carthusian monastery in Calabria, but was heard of in later years as being in Ireland, then in the USA. Date and place of death unknown. Place of burial unknown.
