Rev. Father Thomas Cahill, The Cairns Post, 5 May 1936, p 6, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article41755584: Rev. Father Thomas Cahill, O.S.A., was buried yesterday with the ceremonial of the Roman Catholic Church. Following a Solemn Office for the Dead and a Solemn Requiem Mass the cortege moved from St Monica's Church soon after 9 o'clock. His Lordship Bishop J. Heavey, priests and Marist Brothers preceded the hearse, which was followed by members of the Hibernian Society, the Children of Mary, and other bodies connected with the church. Then came children from the convents and schools in the city, behind whom were parishioners and representatives of all sections of the community. Persons representing various centres of the diocese were present. Members of the H.A.C.B. were the pall bearers. Bishop Heavey, assisted by the priests, officiated at the graveside in the McLeod-street cemetery. At the Requiem Mass Bishop Heavey paid special tribute to Father Cahill. |
