Biographical Notes

Personal, The Southern Cross, Adelaide, 13 September 1935, p 7, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article167074723:

Rev. Father Thomas Doheny, an Irish Priest, who spent 25 years on the Australian Mission, celebrated the golden jubilee of his ordination on May 30 at the Collegio Brignole-Sale-Negroni, Genoa, Italy. The college enthusiastically honored the jubilarian, and the church was filled for the Mass of thanksgiving celebrated by Father Doheny. The Superior of the college preached, emphasising the zeal of the jubilarian and his great work on Australian and American Missions. A reception was held after the Mass.

Father Doheny was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland, about 74 years ago, and after studying for the Priesthood at St. Kieran's College was ordained at Collegio Brignole-Sale-Negroni. He came to Australia in 1886, and labored for a quarter of a century in the Archdiocese of Adelaide. Following a year in Ireland, he ministered for nine years in the Archdiocese of New York. About 1922 he returned to Genoa, where he has since taught at the college. Brothers of the jubilarian are Messrs. John F. Doheny (Ashfield, N.S.W.), William Doheny (Dublin), and Michael Doheny (deceased). His sisters are Mesdames McNamara (Dublin), Banim (Freshford, Ireland), and Wm. Bradley (Kiltown, Castlecomer, Ireland). Nephews include Dr. Banim (Tullaroon), Rev. Bro. Canice (Marist Brothers, Ceylon), and another Marist Brother in Italy.
