Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 108:

Crone, William, Irish
Chaplain to Little Sisters of Poor, Northcote

In tracing this career very little information was forthcoming. He first appears in an 1864 list at Balmain East. Two years later he was at Petersham. Then to use an expression of a famous Monsignor in Sydney (on this list) "we lose sight of him for a number of years". In the mid 1880's he turns up in Hobart, and the last word in the story is that he was Chaplain to the Little Sisters of the Poor at Northcote, Vic., in 1887. Some years ago the columnist went looking for his monument in the Coburg Cemetery, close to Northcote, and can't recall whether or not the search was fruitful. If it was, the file is silent.
