Grey, Cyprien, S.M., Savoyard
Perhaps the Youngest of the 'A' to 'Z' List
Cyprien was born in the Tarantaise Diocese and made his Marist Profession on 26 October 1845 at the age of 22. Presumably he was ordained in the same year, for he appears in Sydney in the following year on his way to the Solomon Islands. Close on a year's service was given before being struck down by fever. Hence he found an early grave at San Cristobel. Date of death is given as 16 March 1847, and the age just one month short of 24.

Fr. Cyprien Crey, d. 1847
Pioneer - Melanesian Mission
Solomon Islands
He was born in Savoie, France in 1823. He was professed a Marist in 1845. To enable him to take an available ship to Oceania, he was ordained by special dispensation at the age of 22. After passing through Wallis, where Françoise Perroton was left behind, he sailed on with Fr. Collomb to San Cristobal-Makira, arriving there in 1847. Bishop-Elect Collomb then sailed off New Zealand to be consecrated. Fr. Crey then went with Fr. Fremont and two Brothers to begin a new Mission in Bia. Within a month he had died of fever and dysentery, at the age of 24. As the local people refused burial, his body was taken back to Makira Harbour.
