Presentation at Cobar, Daily Telegraph, Sydney, 3 September 1885, p 5, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article237253350:

Cobar, Wednesday.— The Rev. Father Bolger, who is leaving here to take charge of the Dubbo Catholic Church, was presented with an address and purse of sovereigns last evening at the presbytery. Father Bolger, in acknowledging the gift, not only thanked his own people for their generosity, but also members of other denominations in Cobar and district for their liberality since his residence among them. The rev. gentleman is very popular with all classes, and his removal is much regretted. Father Bolger was also presented with an address and gold cross from the children of the convent school. His successor is the Rev. J. Milne Curran, late of Dubbo and Nyngan.

Death of a Priest, National Advocate, Bathurst, 29 June 1893, p 2, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article156679096:

A telegram announcing the death of Rev. L. Bolger was received by Right Rev. Dr. Byrne on Tuesday afternoon, and Masses were offered up for the repose of his soul in S.S. Michael and John's Cathedral on Wednesday morning by Very Rev. J. Dunne and Rev. P. Riordan. Father Bolger was a native of the County Wexford, Ireland. He pursued his ecclesiastical studies in the famous College of Louvain, and was ordained in Dublin in the year 1875 by the late Right Rev. M. Quinn, Bishop of Bathurst. Father Bolger arrived in Bathurst shortly after his ordination, accompanied by several Sisters of Mercy, and labored with great success in Bourke, Cobar, Dubbo, Forbes, and Gulgong. He was only forty-two years of age, and although ailing for a considerable time, it was only about a fortnight ago that he became seriously ill. Father Bolger was an accomplished scholar and an effective preacher, and his many friends, both clerical and lay, throughout the diocese of Bathurst will read with sorrow the announcement of his death. Dr. Byrne proceeded to Gulgong by mail train on Tuesday night to attend the funeral obsequies.

Death of a Clergyman, Albury Banner and Wodonga Express, 7 July 1893, p 28, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article254637804:

The Dubbo Dispatch contains the following paragraph:—"We regret to announce the death of the Very Rev. Father Bolger at Gulgong on Monday last. The deceased gentleman was in charge of the Roman Catholic Mission at Cobar for many years. Subsequently he was stationed at Dubbo, and while here he endeared himself to all classes of the community. Ill health compelled his resignation of the Dubbo charge about 12 months ago, and during the last few months he had been doing duty at Forbes and Gulgong. He was about 38 years of age, and a native of Wexford, Ireland. He was educated first at Ferns, and subsequently at Louvain, Belgium. Father Bolger had a large acquaintance with ancient and modern literature. He had also no mean knowledge of chemistry. The cause of death was disease of the heart, which was the result of a severe attack of rheumatic fever he had about three years ago. By Father Bolger's death the Roman Catholic Church loses a devoted servant, and many in this district a warm-hearted friend."

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 1, 1979, p 27:

Bolger, L. (or M.), Very Rev., Irish
First resident in Cobar

Several inquiries have failed to give origin etc. and place of death. After serving in Cobar and Bourke (late 1870's) before the setting up of the Wilcannia Diocese he served in Dubbo, but C.D.'s after 1892 fail to report his ministry.
