Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 41:

Chouvet, Jean Auguste, SM, French, Visitor, Left Order
Apart from one reference to this Marist in Lilian G. Keys' book 'Philip Viard, Bishop of Wellington', regarding his going with the newly-consecrated bishop from Auckland to Akaroa in February 1846, nothing else can be found. Father John Hosie SM states that he was born in the Diocese of Avignon, left Europe in 1842 and passed through Sydney on his way to New Zealand in 1843. Seemingly he left his Order.
