Fr Casey served in the parishes of Lutwyche and Annerley Ekibin as an assistant priest, administrator for Buranda and parish priest of Ipswich, Cannon Hill, and Camp Hill. He also served in Centacare from 1975 – 1989 with five years as director. "He is affectionately remembered in these communities and was much loved by his family and many friends," vicar general Fr Peter Dillon said. "May he rest in peace and experience the eternal presence of Christ he has both loved and served." Fr Casey was an old boy at Downlands Toowoomba from 1959-1962. He was interviewed by The Catholic Leader when he completed his final parish appointment in 2017. He emphasised that he was "not retiring" as a priest but taking on "lesser duties". Fr Casey told The Leader what he would miss most about his active ministry – "the people in the parish". He said the highlights of being a parish priest centred around "any of the times when you're celebrating with the people and ministering among them pastorally". These included "Mass on Sundays when you've got a crowd of people coming wanting the Word and Eucharist". Fr Casey said it was difficult to isolate any one thing as the most satisfying aspect of priesthood. "As you develop spiritually and move forward with the Church and you're ministering and pastoring among the people there's always growth for yourself as they respond and minister to you," he said. Fr Casey lived at the St Vincent's Community at Carseldine since 2018. There, he continued to celebrate Masses and help people pastorally. Funeral details will be announced in the coming days. --- Death Notice, Courier-Mail, Brisbane, 24 January 2026: Casey, Reverend Fr Peter Gerard. Priest of Archdiocese of Brisbane. He then served in the Cannon Hill Parish before being appointed to Catholic Family Welfare (now Centacare Brisbane) in 1975. Fr Peter dedicated 15 years to Centacare, including five years as Director. His first appointment as Parish Priest was at St Oliver Plunkett, Cannon Hill, where he ministered for 10 years. During this period, he was also appointed Dean of the Brisbane East Deanery.
