Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 1, 1979, p 26:

Black, John, Irish
b. County Meath 1847; ed. first in local school. A wanderlust took him to Buenos Aires, Rome, Bathurst, and finally back to All Hallows, Dublin; ord. 20.6.'86. He appears to have come to the Melb. scene, giving service briefly in Geelong and St. Kilda. Possibly he was in the Broken Hill area prior to these appointments. C.D.'s of '81 and '90 place him at Silverton where he is reputed to have said the first Mass. Thereon the trail is lost.
