Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 122:

Dalton, James, Irish
Sydney Servant for 40 Years

Probably James was a blood relation of John. Born in County Kilkenny and educated at All Hallows, Dublin he was ordained at the Loreto Convent, Kilkenny on 2 July 1892. (Melb. 'Advocate', 13.8.1892). Character and achievements are unknown, but the Directories show consistent service and frequent moves at episcopal nod. He must come close to a record in the number of places served; Cooma, Bombala, Nowra, Balmain East, Kogarah, Canterbury, Newtown, Redfern, Kogarah. All these were assistantships: Then came parishes and administratorships: Pyrmont, Enfield, Bondi, Auburn. The list is probably incomplete. He died as the Pastor of Auburn on 2 September 1932. The age was 65 and he rests with his fellows at Rookwood.
