Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Tully, Maurice

Born 12 December 1900, Perth WA. Educated in Perth. A nephew of Maurice Tobin he studied at St Patrick's College, Manly NSW, and was ordained to the priesthood on 24 June 1923 in Perth for the Armidale diocese. His first appointment was to the cathedral parish. After only eight months in Armidale he was transferred as assistant priest Quirindi, where he served for three years. He then was briefly at Glen Innes, spent three years at Narrabri, then five years at Inverell. He was appointed as administrator of the cathedral in 1935. During his time in Armidale the new Bishop's House was constructed, additional marble was installed in the sanctuary of the cathedral, and the cathedral hall was built. In 1945 he was appointed parish priest of Quirindi where he remained until his retirement in 1974, when he moved to Nazareth House, Tamworth, where he lived until his death. He was Vicar General of the diocese for many years. He died in Tamworth on 19 May 1981, and is buried at Quirindi.
