Biographical Notes

Fr David Strong SJ, The Australian dictionary of Jesuit biography 1848-2015, Second Edition, 2017:
Foreword: "we acknowledge that some of the men in this book are the subject of allegations of abuse. Some of these allegations remain untested because the accused person had already died before the allegation was made and there has been little evidence to draw upon. These have been indicated in the text with one asterisk."
Flynn, Leo*

Pastor; born Bunbury, Western Australia, 14 March 1917; died Melbourne, 22 July 2004, aged 87.

Leo Flynn was one of eleven children, three of whom became Loreto nuns and one brother, Michael, was a deacon in later life. Leo was educated for a short time at St Ildephonsus College, New Norcia, and then at CBC Terrace, Perth, before entering the Society at Loyola College, Watsonia, 8 April 1936, and completed all his formation in Australia. His regency was at St Louis School, Perth, 1943-1945.

Flynn spent most of his working life in parishes, St Ignatius', Richmond, 1952-1954 and 1965-1972, the latter as parish priest. He was also parish priest at Attadale, WA, 1955-1964, and Toowong, Queensland, 1973-1981. He worked in the parishes of North Sydney, 1982-1983 and Kenmore, 1983-1989. In his retirement he lived at Canisius College, 1995-2000, Sevenhill, 2000-2001, and Nazareth House, Camberwell, 2002-2004.
