Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Harrington, Joseph Patrick

Born in 1881 at Shanakill, Templemore, Co Tipperary, Ireland, exact date unknown. Details of education unknown. Place of study unknown, except that illness interrupted his seminary studies in Ireland so he migrated to Australia in 1908 to be near his brother T F Harrington. He then resumed his studies at St Patrick's College, Manly. He was ordained at St Mary's Cathedral Sydney by Cardinal Moran on 30 November 1910 with L J O'Reilly. His appointments as assistant priest were to Inverell, then Quirindi. In 1923 he took an overseas holiday. He was appointed parish priest of Wee Waa from 6 Feb 1926. A nephew, T Harrington, was a priest in the Sydney archdiocese (at Mascot in 1922). He died on 4 April 1932 of pneumonia 'in the 52nd year of his age, and the 23rd of his priesthood'. He was buried at Wee Waa.
