Biographical Notes
Funeral for Port Pirie priest, Catholic Leader, Brisbane, 13 April 2003, p 7:
A Funeral Mass for Port Pirie priest, Fr John Baldacchino, was celebrated at Redcliffe in Queensland on April 3.
Fr Baldacchino had moved north a few months ago to be with his sister, Doris Kirkwood and her husband, Ian, at Redcliffe when he became ill as a result of cancer.
He died on March 30, aged 71, and Bishop Eugene Hurley of Port Pirie came to Redcliffe to celebrate his funeral Mass at Holy Cross Church.
Fr Kevin Matthews, who is parish priest of Cleve, in Port Pirie diocese, also was among those attending the funeral.
Born in Malta, Fr Baldacchino migrated to Sydney in 1951 and studied with the Carmelites.
He was ordained at Wentworthville in January 1964, and worked with the Carmelites in South Australia and NSW before joining Port Pirie diocese in 1974.
He served in Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Cleve, Loxton, Hawker and Cummins parishes.
