Mission Work Among the Natives. The Beagle Bay Station. Visit of the Chief Protector of Aborigines, The West Australian, Perth, 13 February 1911, p 5, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article26303074:

During his recent trip to the northern portion of the State the Chief Protector of Aborigines (Mr C. F. Gale) travelled with Inspector Sellinger, of the Police Department, by lugger from Broome to Derby, and on the way he made a visit of inspection to the Beagle Bay Mission Station, which is the principal aboriginal mission station in the State. Mr. Gale has furnished an interesting report regarding the work done there, and this has been made available for publication by the Colonial Secretary (Mr. J. D. Connolly):—

"The mission was founded by the Most Rev. Dr. Gibney, late Bishop of Perth," says the report, "in 1890, and was committed to the charge of the monks of La Trappe, 14 of whom took up the work of Christianising the natives under the super- vision of the Rev. Fathers Walter and White. In 1900 the monks were recalled to Europe, and the mission was then practically abandoned. The Rt. Rev. Father Kelly, Bishop of Geraldton, was fortunate enough, while on a visit to Rome, to secure the services of a body of the Palatine Fathers, and in 1903, under Father Walter's administration, five lay brothers and one priest were sent out to strengthen the mission staff. Subsequently other priests from Rome joined the staff, which at the present moment has among its numbers the Rev. Fathers Bischoffs (supervisor), Thomas Buchmain, W. Droste, Thos. Traub, and 12 brothers. During 1907 nine sisters of the Order of St. John of God, Subiaco, Perth, arrived at the mission, under the charge of the Rev. Mother Antonio O'Brien, and six of them remained to enter upon the special duties of training the girls of the mission. [...]

Bischoff, F

The only reason for the inclusion of this man in this volume is that he appears in a group photograph taken at Glen Innes in December 1919 when the Apostolic Delegate visited Glen Innes after the consecration of the Cathedral at Armidale. He is listed in the text as being based in Armidale. He does not appear in other known records. He is not mentioned in Southerwood.
