Maron, James Gerald

Born on 22 August 1903 in Bondi Junction, Sydney. Educated in Bondi Junction and at Christian Brothers College, Waverley. He then worked for a while before commencing studies at St Columba's College Springwood and St Patrick's College Manly. He was ordained in St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney on 1 December 1930 for the Armidale diocese, and began duties in January 1931. He was assistant priest at Tamworth, Gunnedah and Wee Waa. He then served as an Army chaplain during World War II in Sydney. After a year as Army chaplain he returned to the diocese and was appointed parish priest Emmaville, then Wee Waa, Bingara and Barraba, before going to Boggabri as parish priest in December 1961. He resigned from the position in August 1970 suffering from an illness that followed a holiday visit to India. He retired to St John Vianney Villa for Retired Priests at Clovelly, living there until his death in the Sacred Heart Hospice, Darlinghurst on 16 July 1972. Bishop Henry Kennedy of Armidale officiated at his funeral from Holy Cross Church, Woollahra. He was buried in Waverley cemetery.
