Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
McAuliffe, Cornelius

Born in June 1855 at Glanmure, Co Cork. Educated at St Vincent's Seminary, Cork. Studied at All Hallows. Ordained on 25 June 1882 for the Maitland diocese. Place of ordination unknown. He arrived in Sydney in November 1882 on Austral. He was immediately appointed to Gunnedah, where he remained until August 1885. He then served in Newcastle (1885 - 1886), returned to Gunnedah (1886-1887). When the diocesan boundaries were changed and Gunnedah became part of the Armidale diocese he was moved to Dungog (1887-1891). He was then attached to Sacred Heart College Maitland, where he taught from 1891 to 1898. A number of other appointments followed. He died on 26 August 1937, aged 82, as the oldest priest in the Maitland diocese at the time. He was buried at Sandgate cemetery.
