Biographical Notes

Queanbeyan, Darlinghurst, Canterbury, Surry Hills, etc, NSW

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 70:

Condon, Richard, Irish
Canterbury Pastor and Hospital Chaplain

Date and place of birth have not been ascertained. Education was received at St. Colman's Fermoy, and at All Hallows from 1879 to 1884. He was ordained for Sydney on 24 June 1884. Places of service are somewhat difficult to name in their correct order, but include Liverpool, Newtown and Shoalhaven (prior to 1886); Nowra (1886); Appin (1888); Prospect (1888); Queanbeyan (1892)(1893); Camperdown; Pambula (1898)(1901); Surry Hills (1902-4), Darlinghurst (1908). During the Darlinghurst stay he was Chaplain to St. Vincent's Hospital. Whether he was P.P. at Canterbury before the Darlinghurst appointment is not clear; certainly he was in the former place in 1910 and 1911. He died at St. Vincent's, Darlinghurst, on 12 October 1914 after a short illness. Age: 56. Place of burial: Rookwood.
