Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 111:

Cullen, Patrick, Irish
Pastor in Gresford & Chaplain to Dominican Nuns

Place of birth and parentage are given under Hugh Cullen's details. Patrick studied at All Hallows and was ordained for Maitland by his Bishop (Dr. James Murray) on 23 June 1889. He served as assistant at Singleton (1892 Directory), Raymond Terrace, and Dungog (1897). He then became Pastor at Gresford in 1898, serving there until 1911. An "On Leave" period followed, and loss of status as a Pastor was incurred either by Patrick's choice or by episcopal nod. And so from 1913 to 1917 he served at Lambton as assistant to Dean Cornelius McAuliffe. From 1917 to 1921 he was Chaplain to the Dominican community at Mayfield, where he became remembered for his genial and kindly disposition. He died at Mayfield on 21 April 1921 at the age of 61. Burial took place to the Sandgate Cemetery. A photo of the genial man is found in the Sydney 'Catholic Press' of 28.4.1921.
