Death of missioner, The Argus, Melbourne, 13 January 1954, p 11, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article26584691:
The Rev. Father Gerard O'Donnell, who spent 14 years as a Redemptorist missioner in the Philippines, died, aged 48, in Melbourne yesterday. During the war he was interned by the Japanese at Losbanos for nearly four years. After his release he returned to Australia to recover from his experiences at the hands of the Japanese. He then travelled to the Philippines again for four more years. He came home to Australia again in 1950, and had been a semi-invalid since. His funeral will leave the Redemptorist Monastery, Ballarat, at 10 a.m. tomorrow for New Ballarat Cemetery.
