Some Memories
by Father Brian Mathews

Vincent Shiel
Not all memories are funny. While I was on holidays from the seminary in Crystal Brook, over Christmas, John 'told' me to come along and be an altar server for Christmas. I asked why, and he said to show me off. I was not keen on that idea and said no. That was the last time he spoke to me. It certainly fits with the stories others tell of him. Every time I saw him I made a point of speaking to him but I think that only made it worse. Sad really as he had a good sense of humour.
