Magennis passed through Goulburn on Thursday, the 28th ultimo, on his way to Berrima, to take the spiritual charge of that district, in the room of the Rev. C. Twomey, who proceeds to Albury. The Rev. J. McElroy arrived in Goulburn on Saturday night, en route for Yass, where he is to be associated with the Rev. Mr. Bermingham. — Goulburn Chronicle. --- Committal of a Roman Catholic Clergyman, Ovens and Murray Advertiser, Beechworth, 6 October 1863, p 3, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article112894679: At the Police Court at Albury, on Saturday last, the Rev Cornelius Twoomey was fully committed to take his trial for celebrating a marriage without there being two witnesses present to attest the same. The rev gentleman, it appears, was under the impression that he himself could act as a witness; the law, however, distinctly says to the contrary, and the information having been laid, the Magistrates were compelled to commit Mr Twoomey for contravention of the Marriage Act, admitting him to bail on his own recognisance of £100. The affair has caused a great deal of stir among the members of the denomination to which the rev defendant belongs. --- Death of the Rev. C. Twomey, Southern Argus, Goulburn, 28 January 1882, p 2, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article102062764: Another of our old and much-respected priests has passed away—the Rev. Cornelius Twomey. He was educated in All-Hallows College, Dublin. Ordained in 1852, in the following year he came to labour in the cause of religion in N. S. Wales, where for very nigh thirty years his efforts for the cause he espoused were unceasing and his zeal unabated. He laboured on the mission in Albury for several years, then he was removed to Tumut, where his zeal has left monuments which will ever keep fresh in the memory of his flock his untiring exertions for their spiritual good. The Church of the Immaculate Conception at Tumut is one of the finest in the diocese of Goulburn. Some fortnight ago Father Twomey left for Melbourne for a short vacation, which, contrary to expectation, proved to be his last. On Wednesday morning he peacefully and calmly breathed his last, after a very holy and thoroughly priestly life spent in the service of his Master. He was buried in Melbourne on Thursday, and as his Lordship could not be present on the occasion, a solemn High Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral, Goulburn, for the eternal repose of his soul. His Lordship Dr. Lanigan was celebrant, the Rev. P.J. O'Keeffe and Rev. J. O'Dwyer respectively deacon and sub-deacon, and the Rev. D.T. Walsh master of ceremonies. It is needless to say that all the above, particularly his Lordship, were very sorry that they could not assist at the obsequies of one of the oldest and most-respected priests of the diocese. --- Kevin Condon, CM, The Missionary College of All Hallows 1842-1891, Dublin, 1986.
