Personal, Tweed Daily, Murwillumbah, 31 May 1916, p 2, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article190925793:

The death occurred on Friday at the Mater Misericordiae private hospital, Brisbane, of Rev. Father Cussen, of Tweed Heads. The deceased priest, who was attached to the Redemptorist Order, had been in very bad health for some considerable time, and had been an inmate of the Mater hospital for two months. In speaking of Father Cussen's death, Archbishop Duhig referred touchingly to the thirty years of fine work which the deceased priest had accomplished.

Cussen, Patrick Stack, CSSR, Irish
Fruitful Apostolate as a Secular and a Redemptorist

It's fitting that a Kerryman should finish off the list of names under "C", for Kerry was the birthplace of more priests among the 2,200 recorded than any other County in Ireland. A grand contribution to the Church in Australia! Father Wm. Packer CSSR in his Redemptorist Chronology (or similar title) describes Patrick Cussen as a great athlete and horseman, a man of immense physical strength. Born on 14 December 1864, he was the son of Richard and Anne Cussen (nee Stack) who lived in Ballyduff. Priesthood studies were undergone in turn at the Diocesan Seminary, Killarney; Holy Cross College, Clonliffe, Dublin; All Hallows, Dublin; and at Thurles. He was ordained from Thurles for the Goulburn Diocese on 10 August 1886. First appointment was to Young, as assistant to Fr. William McGrath; then to Crookwell, as assistant to Fr. James Gaffey. Wagga, Tumut, and Narrandera were other places of service before returning to Young in 1897. The following year he joined Fr. John Baptist Curley of Cootamundra to take on a missionary career with the Redemptorists. Hence his departure for Ireland and entry of the Dundalk Novitiate, where he was professed on 16 April 1902. Ten years were spent missioning in Ireland, and during that period he was Director of the Holy Family Confraternity in Belfast. Arriving back on 30 May 1910 he was destined to spend five profitable years at the Ballarat House, and almost two years at Tweed Heads. And there the Lord summoned him to his reward after 30 years of service on 20 May 1916. The age was 51. His remains lie in the Sandgate Cemetery.
