Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 32:

Cassidy, Andrew Xavier, Irish, Left Mission
From County Donegal

All Hallows records indicate that Andrew Xavier was born in April 1859 at Killybegs (is my atlas spelling right?), Diocese of Raphoe, County Donegal. Parents were Andrew and Mary Clarke. Education was acquired at Ballyshannon, All Hallows, and in France and Spain. Ordination took place on 9 July 1882 at St. Patrick's, Lough Derg, at the hands of Dr. Lynch of Toronto. The newly ordained arrived in Wellington N.Z., on 16 February 1883. Places of service, as shown by Directories, indicate: New Plymouth (1887), Puhoi, Napier, and elsewhere. He arrived from New Zealand for service in the Lismore Diocese in 1889. We find him stationed at Maclean (1891)(1892)(1893). Later "The Shepherd in the Mist" became a Doctor. His activities on the North Coast of NSW would hardly please the present Right to Life Association.

ANZCC note: A Dr Andrew Sarsfield cassidy was charged with murder for peforming an abortion in December 1921 (Grafton Argus and Clarence River General Advertiser, 13 December 1921, p 3). The NSW Deaths Index has Andrew X S Cassidy, died 1928, aged 74, mother Margaret Clarke, indicating that Fr Linane may be referring to the same person.
