Cosgrove, Lawrence

Born 28 July 1904, Ballinamuck, Co Longford, Ireland, educated at Leggah National School. Studied at St Mary's, then St John's Seminary Waterford. Ordained 20 June 1937 at Waterford. He arrived in the Armidale diocese on 5 November 1937. His first appointment was to Manilla, then Tamworth, West Tamworth, Quirindi, Moree, Gunnedah, Emmaville and Armidale. In January 1950 he went to Inverell, spending time as locum tenens in Barraba, Walgett and Emmaville. In late 1952 he was appointed as parish priest Ashford, remaining there until 1958 when he transferred to Mungindi. He made a trip back to Ireland in late 1962. On his return to Mungindi he took ill, and spent time in hospital in Brisbane from January 1963. He asked to be returned to Inverell for his last days, as his final wish was to be buried in Inverell near his friend Monsignor Patrick Condon. He died on 17 April 1963, and was buried in Inverell cemetery.
