Father Dahill, National Advocate, Bathurst, 16 March 1951, p 2, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article161404317: The death took place at St. Patrick's Hospital, Cork, on March 2, of Rev. John Dahill, at the age of 48, after a long illness. While a priest of the Bathurst Diocese he developed disseminated schlerosis, so that he had to retire from the active ministry in 1946 and soon became an invalid. He had made his ecclesiastical studies at Mt. Melleray Seminary, St. John's College, Waterford, and at Brignole Sale, Genoa, and it was by Archbishop Minoretti of Genoa that he was raised to the priesthood on June 11, 1927. Shortly after, he began work in this Diocese and was attached to the parishes of Mudgee, Dubbo, Kandos and Coonabarabran. In all of these places he will be long remembered and people will recall his eloquent sermons and his bright and very witty conversation. A Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated yesterday in SS. Michael and John's Cathedral, Bathurst, for the eternal repose of his soul. [...] The final absolutions were pronounced by the Bishop. A Requiem Mass has also been arranged for by Monsignor Flanagan, V.G. in Mudgee, where the late Father Dahill began his ministry. The Cathedral was crowded with pupils from the Catholic school, from St. Stanislaus College and with members of the laity, as well as Sisters of Mercy and De La Salle Brothers. |
