Denis M. Long, Pioneer and Early Priests, Archdiocese of Brisbane, Deceased or retired by 1929, 2021, p 93:
Italian Priests who did not stay in Brisbane

Historian, Patrick O’Farrell, writes:
As to James Quinn’s 1870 recruitment, he had to settle for European priests from France, Italy and Germany. They were something of a mixed bag, especially the sixteen Italians, some being what Murray called ‘desperate vagabonds’, others being interested in what money they could make, many affronted by the contrast between the rough demands of the colonial church and the way of life they were used to in Italy. They gave Quinn trouble enough. By 1872 a dozen of them were claiming that they were starving in the Brisbane diocese, and regaling Rome with highly uncomplimentary accounts of Quinn and all his works.(1) [...]

Fr Giovanni Rossi

Fr Rossi, like Fathers Natali and Cervini, is listed as one of the Italian priests arriving in Brisbane on the 28 February 1871 aboard the Storm King. He is not mentioned in Sr Anne McLay’s life of Bishop Quinn or in any newspaper reports. The only reference to him is in Pugh’s Almanac of 1872.
