Gravestone: "Pray for the soul of the Very Reverend John Cuthbert Downey, O.S.B., founder of St Benedict's Parish, wherein he laboured from 10th February 1880 until the evening of 21st May 1895, when God had pity on his faithful servant who was weary and spent and suddenly called him to eternal rest. Born 1832. Monk 1850. Priest 1856. A loving tribute from friends and flock."
