Fr. Pierre Chauvel, d. 1933
Samoa - Vanuatu
He was born in Loire-Atlantique, France in 1867. He was professed a Marist in 1892 and in the following year, aged 26, he went to Samoa, where he worked mainly in Aleipata. Seven years later, ill health forced him to go to New Zealand for a year. In 1900 he was appointed to Vanuatu where he worked in most of the missions in spite of poor health, which forced him to go to New Caledonia in 1915 for tuberculosis treatment. He then resumed his work in Vanuatu. For the last 7 years of his life he took charge of the diocesan printery at Port Vila. He died there, aged 66.
