Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 132:

Deasy, Denis, Irish
Typhoid Victim

Denis came from County Cork and was educated for the priesthood at All Hallows, Dublin. He was ordained for the Perth Diocese in 1893. Two years were spent at Northam before transfer to the rough and ready goldfield of Kalgoorlie. In 1898 he contracted typhoid and was hospitalised for several months. After recovering he went to give service in the USA. In May 1947 a Denis Deasy is listed in Irish Directories as a chaplain at Honan Home, Montenotte, in the Cork Diocese. So if the Denis who came from Cork to W.A. is identical with Denis the chaplain in the Cork Diocese in 1947, a golden jubilee of service had been attained. This information has come from the late Fr J.N. Moynahan, Perth Archivist.
