Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Teggins, David Allan

Born in Tamworth on 21 December 1943 his primary schooling was at St Laurence's school, Broadmeadow and St Columbanus's school, Mayfield. High schooling was at St Joseph's, Taree and Mount Carmel Christian Brothers College, Tamworth. He then studied at St Columba's College, Springwood and St Patrick's College Manly. He was ordained by Bishop Henry Kennedy in Tamworth on 8 December 1968. He then served as assistant priest at Gunnedah, then West Tamworth, South Tamworth and Inverell. On 24 November 1972, while based at Inverell, he suffered extensive brain damage in a motor vehicle accident near Bingara. After hospitalisation in Bingara he was transferred to St Vincent's hospital, Sydney and eventually moved to the St John of God Hospital, Richmond, where he spent the remaining years of his life in care. In mid 1980 the parishioners of Inverell raised funds to send him, his parents and a carer to Lourdes, during which visit he was received by Pope Paul VI in a private audience in Rome. He died on 24 November 1980. He was buried in Wamberal cemetery near where his parents were living at the time.
