Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Lynam, Joseph Patrick

Born in Ireland on 13 June 1908, place of birth unknown. Details of education unknown. Studied at All Hallows College, Dublin. Ordained at All Hallows on 23 June 1935. He then came to the Armidale diocese. His first appointments were as assistant priest Tamworth, then Glen Innes. Other appointments as assistant priest are unknown. By 1948 he was parish priest Emmaville, at which time he took a trip home to Ireland. In 1950 he was appointed as parish priest Walcha and was also at one time parish priest Boggabri. His final appointment was as parish priest Warialda. He retired to Nazareth House, Tamworth where he lived until his death. A brother, Malachy, a priest in the Rockhampton diocese, died just before him on 3 September 1984. Two sisters, members of the Sisters of St Joseph, and a third unmarried sister survived him. He died at Tamworth on 18 October 1984. He was buried in Tamworth cemetery. His headstone shows his name as 'Joseph Patrick' Lynam. The death notice published in the Northern Daily Leader, and the funeral notice, give his name 'Joseph Francis' Lynam.
