Father E. O'Brien Dead, The Herald, Melbourne, 14 Jan 1935, p 5, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article245436541:

The death occurred at Mount St. Evin's Hospital today of the Rev. Edward O'Brien, parish priest of Our Lady of Victories Church, Camberwell. in his 70th year.

Father O'Brien was born at Dublin in 1865. He studied at All Hallows College, Dublin, and was ordained priest in 1889. Soon afterwards he came to Australia and acted as assistant to the late Archdeacon Slattery at St. Mary's Geelong.

For some time he administered the parish during a lengthy illness of his superior and when a successor was appointed Father O'Brien was transferred to Collingwood.

He remained there for 13 years, placing the parish on a sound and progressive footing, improving the church buildings and developing the parochial organisations.

From Collingwood Father O'Brien returned to Geelong, to take charge of part of his old parish, which formed part of one newly created. A church had been built, but Father O'Brien raised the parish hall and the presbytery. Later he was transferred to Camberwell to succeed the late Rev. G. Robinson.

Here he completed the church and built up the choir.
