Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Harrington, Thomas Francis

Born Templemore, Ireland, exact date unknown (1870). Details of education unknown. Place of study unknown [St John's College, Waterford]. He was ordained at Waterford in 1897 (exact date unknown), and came to Armidale where he was appointed as assistant priest for two years. He was then transferred to Tamworth, October 1899, then to Quirindi as assistant priest in 1901, only some months before the death of the parish priest Fr John Paul Pederzoli OSFC. Following Pederzoli's death he was appointed parish priest (January 1902), and he remained in the position until his death. He built the new church in Quirindi, plus a new presbytery (1922 - the old presbytery became a church hall), extended the school at Quirindi, built churches at Blackville, Wallabadah, Currabubula, Willow Tree and Bundella, and the church school at Werris Creek (1912). A convent followed in 1914. In February 1911 he took twelve months of leave to visit Ireland. He took a second overseas holiday in 1923. A brother, Joseph Patrick Harrington was a priest of the diocese, and a sister was a member of the Good Samaritan Order. Both predeceased him. Another married sister died in Tamworth in 1900. A nephew, T Harrington, was a priest in the Sydney archdiocese (at Mascot in 1922). He was given the title Archdeacon on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his ordination in 1922. He died at Quirindi on 25 May 1942, and is buried at Quirindi.
