Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 94:

Courrech, Benjamin, SM, French, Visitor
A Marist from the Rodez Diocese

One glorious year of missionary life to his credit from the time of his Marist profession. To quote the list of Marists that Fr. John Hosie submitted with his degree thesis by way of supplement: Born 29 December 1855. Professed 16 September 1885; passed through Sydney the same year and laboured for the salvation of souls in Fiji. The circumstances of his death there on 28 October 1886 seem to be unrecorded.

Fr. Benjamin Courrech, d. 1886
Fiji
He was born in Aveyron, France in 1855. He was professed a Marist in 1883 and left the following year for Oceania, at the age of 30. After a short time at Rewa he was posted to Wairiki on Taveuni to assist Fr. Laurent Favre, who had worked for 30 years as the "founding apostle" for Vanua Levu and Taveuni. Shortly after his arrival, illness struck. After nursing Fr. Favre to his death, he himself died the following month. He was 31.
