Kelly, Patrick J
Date and place of birth unknown [Waterford, Ireland, 1850). Details of education unknown. Place of study unknown. Date of arrival in New South Wales unknown (1876). He completed his studies in Bathurst and was ordained in Bathurst by Bishop Matthew Quinn on 4 February 1877. After almost 11 years in the Bathurst diocese he transferred to the Armidale diocese, was first appointed to Bingara, and from there to Tenterfield. The report of his funeral notes that the Church of England, Presbyterian and Wesleyan Ministers attended his funeral, as also Salvation Army representatives. He gave £400 to Bishop Torreggiani towards reduction of the debt on the Tenterfield convent. He reputedly died intestate. He died in Tenterfield on 28 July 1887, aged 37 years. He was buried in Tenterfield cemetery. The inscription on his tomb reads "Erected by the people of Tenterfield to the memory of the Rev P J Kelly".
