Biographical Notes

Fr Frank Cresp, Good and Faithful Servants: Recalling the Spirit of the Deceased Priests of the Diocese of Port Augusta and Port Pirie 1888-2008, 2008:
Dunne, James Patrick

Born: 27/4/1897 in Ireland.
Son of a farmer. Studied at Mt Melleray College and Propaganda College, Rome, Italy.
Ordained: 17/12/1927 in Rome.
Worked in Pekina 1928; Peterborough 1930; Georgetown 1935; Port Augusta 1937; Minnipa 1938; Inland Mission based at Peterborough 1940-50; Streaky Bay 1951.
Member of the British Empire 1971.
Died: 19/2/1974. Buried at Streaky Bay.
Said to be the only white male whom Daisy Bates invited to her camp ... formal invitation to morning tea. This could have been early in his time on the Inland Mission when she was camped at Wynbring Siding, but more likely later when she was near Streaky Bay under the care of the Thompson and Matthews families. He travelled much in the outback and always covered his tracks behind him.
