O'Connell Daniel (d aged 85 yrs) recently at Mater Hospital, Dunedin; Fr. Dan was one year off his 60th anniversary as a priest; he had been a patient of the Mater Hospital, Dunedin, since 1967; he was appointed Alexandra's first resident priest in 1924; he entered Holy Cross College as a student in 1901 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1912 in St Joseph's Cathedral; the first three years of his ministry were spent in Lawrence; later he was in Oamaru and Wrey's Bush before going to Alexandra; buried Alexandra cemetery.
