Biographical Notes

Testimonial to Father Terdozzi, Peak Downs Telegram, Brisbane, 23 September 1873, p 3, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article289756609:

On Saturday last the friends of the Rev. Oreste Terdozzi, met at Mullin’s Commercial Hotel, for the purpose of presenting the rev. gentleman, who is about to leave Clermont for Europe, with an address and purse of sovereigns. The presentation was made on behalf of the subscribers by Dr. Candiottis, who read the following address:—

"Clermont, Queensland,
"September 20, 1873;
"To the Rev. Oreste Terdozzi,
Dear Sir,—As it has been intimated to us that you are about to leave the district of Clermont for Europe, we cannot allow you to do so without assuring you that we sincerely regret your intended departure from among us. You may depend that wherever the scene of your future labours may be, the good wishes of the inhabitants of this district will be with you. As a small token of our regard we beg that you will accept the accompanying purse which has been made up by a few of your friends.
"Wishing you a safe journey to Europe, and all prosperity and happiness,
"We are, Yours faithfully."
[Here follow a number of signatures.]

Father Therdozzi in accepting the purse, returned his thanks to the gentlemen who had so kindly contributed towards it, and assured them that he felt very sorry indeed to leave this district, as during his stay here he had made so many friends, and had been treated with great kindness and hospitality by all denominations. However, the state of his health was such that he was reluctantly compelled to leave Clermont for the purpose of taking a trip to Rome. The rev. gentleman said that he should always remember the people of Clermont with pleasure, and he hoped that the district would continue to flourish.
