Death notice, https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/legacyremembers/patrick-mcnamara-obituary?id=12025412:

McNamara, Rev. Patrick O.S.M., Providence native (christened John F. McNamara, Jr.), died Nov. 21 at age 88 in Portland, Oregon, where he had lived at The Grotto (Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful mother) and last worked as a chaplain at Providence Hospital in Portland.

The eldest of four children of John and Margaret (Gannon) McNamara, he joined the Order of Servants of Mary, or Servites, following freshman year at Providence College in 1940. He had attended St. Michael's School and graduated with honors from LaSalle Academy. Having completed his seminary training, he was ordained in Benburb, Co. Tyrone, Ireland, in 1949 and celebrated his first stateside Mass at St. Michael's, Providence, where some years later he would conduct a retreat or 'mission' with his younger brother, Fr. William McNamara, O.C.D. (formerly J. Edward) who took William as his religious name in the Discalced Carmelite Order.

Following theological studies in Rome and Ireland, Fr. Pat worked in parishes, schools, editorial offices, foreign missions, and chaplaincies in universities and hospitals here and abroad. He was known for his friendships around the world, his avid reading and writing, and his walks (captured in keen observations) around the magnificent Grotto grounds.

Survivors include his sister, Rita Crawford of Jamestown and St. Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich, and the children and grandchildren of Rita and the late Austin Crawford; his brothers, Fr. William of New Pine Creek, Oregon, founder of monastic communities in the U.S., Canada and Ireland, and William Aloysius McNamara and his wife Catherine of East Greenwich, their five sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fr. Pat's Servite community in Portland will conduct his Funeral Mass tomorrow. Fr. William will be homilist. Remembrances may be addressed to Father Prior, The Grotto, P.O. Box 20008, Portland, Oregon, 97214.
