Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Heffernan, Maurice Aubrey

Born 4 February 1897 in Sydney. Details of education unknown. He commenced studies at St Columba's College Springwood in 1924. Ill health forced his withdrawal from training in 1927. He then entered local government, rising to the position of town clerk, Uralla and Bourke NSW. He then became shire clerk at Ashford, from which position he resigned to recommence seminary training in 1949. He was ordained on 23 July 1952 at Armidale. Assignments as assistant priest followed at Gunnedah, Tamworth and Narrabri. He was then appointed parish priest Emmaville, where he remained for 13 years until 1969 when he moved to Armidale as chaplain at De La Salle College. In 1972 he resigned that post, and lived his remaining years at St Mary's minor seminary. He died on 14 January 1975, and is buried in Armidale cemetery.
