Fr Denis W. Martin, Priests of 1928, Brisbane, 2003, pp 42-43:
Dean/Mons. William Lee

All three churches at Rosalie were built by William Lee who, after ordination at All Hallows in 1893, came out to the Diocese on the Cuzco.

As was the custom under Archbishop Dunne, priests attended Mass centres around Brisbane from headquarters. Fr Lee 'who was much loved and trusted by the old Archbishop' was allowed to give special attention to the Rosalie area. The little church of 1898 was replaced by a more ornate timber one in 1907. These became school rooms when the fine brick church of 1918 was opened. Substantial convent and presbytery buildings completed the site until 1928 when the Marist Brothers were invited to open a college. As was said, 'Monsignor Lee turned a wilderness into a fine group of parish buildings'.

It was in 1930 or so that Archbishop Duhig invested him with the robes of a Diocesan Prelate and the title of Monsignor. Two of his nephews, Frs James and Edmond O'Donnell also came out to work in the Diocese. James, who is in the photo, was to die soon afterward but Edmond laboured on in the Toowoomba Diocese until 1957. We recall too that it was Dean Lee who had his horn-rimmed spectacles made sport of by Jerry O'Leary and hence Suppressio Veri. Ironically, it is thanks to the latter's book that Dean Lee's work at Rosalie is so well documented.

In April of 1934, Mons. Lee returned to Ireland for a holiday, hoping to restore his health. He did not respond and died in hospital at Limerick on 1st April 1935. He was buried in his home parish near Cashel, Tipperary, by Dr English who happened to be in Ireland at the time. A Requiem Mass was offered at St Stephen's Cathedral by his nephew Fr Edmond O'Donnell and attended by hundreds of his sorrowing parishioners. Archbishop Duhig said that Mons. Lee was 'highly esteemed by his fellow priests and a leader in practically every movement among them'.

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Lee, William

Listed in E J Doody, Acta et Statuta 1951, Appendix VI, Obituary List, in the section headed 'supplementary list of priests who have also worked in the diocese', but with no details other than the period he reputedly worked in the diocese, in this case 1893.
No details are held about a priest by this name or somebody closely resembling this name living and working in New South Wales at about this time. The source that resulted in Bishop Doody's listing is unknown. A William Lee arrived in Melbourne on his way to the Brisbane diocese in October 1893. No other useful details are held.
