Biographical Notes

Diocesan News from All Parts of the State. Canberra-Goulburn. Father Peter Costello Dies In Ireland, Catholic Weekly, Sydney, 27 April 1950, p 6, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article146735048:

On Sunday, April 2, the death occurred at the Maypark Nursing Home, Waterford, Ireland, of Rev. Father Peter Costello, a priest of this Archdiocese. For some time a journalist in America, Father Costello was ordained on June 14, 1908. For seven years he labored in the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes, coming to the Goulburn Diocese in July, 1915. His appointments in this diocese included the parishes of Cooma, Cootamundra, Goulburn (for 12 months), Queanbeyan, Moruya, Bega and Eden. For a period of years he was a chaplain to St. Michael's Novitiate, Goulburn. Afflicted with a long illness, Father Costello went to Ireland about two years ago, where, after a sudden attack, he died on April 2. Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul in SS. Peter and Paul's Cathedral, Goulburn. His Grace Archbishop McGuire presided at the Mass, which was celebrated by the Very Rev. Father L. Gallagher (Adm.), assisted by the Rev. Father A. Conway, deacon, and the Rev. Father L. Reynolds, sub-deacon. Present in the sanctuary were members of the cathedral and diocesan clergy and representatives of the Passionist Fathers, Mary's Mount. In the panegyric His Grace paid tribute to the late Father Costello's eloquence as a preacher and to the priestly spirit he maintained in spite of illness. The Last Absolution at the catafalque was given by the Archbishop. — R.I.P.

Costello, Patrick, Irish
A Wild Kerryman

Not to be confused with Peter Aloysius Costello of the Goulburn Diocese ..... [...] He then rambled interstate. He was at Wilcannia in 1915. [...]

ANZCC note: It was actually Fr Peter A. Costello who was named in the 1915 Australian Catholic Directory as being stationed at Wilcannia.
