Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005: Born in Drummond, Co Monaghan, Ireland on 15 April 1885. Educated at the Derrygooney National School, and then at Mount Melleray. Studied at All Hallows College, Dublin. Ordained at All Hallows on 22 June 1913, and arrived in the Armidale diocese in October 1913. His first appointment was briefly to Wee Waa as assistant priest, then he was transferred to Bingara, then two years later to Tenterfield where he remained for four years. In 1920 he was appointed assistant priest at Gunnedah for three years, then transferred to Armidale for five years. On 14 March 1928 he became parish priest Bundarra, transferring from there to Bingara on 19 January 1930. He was only in that town for a year and was then appointed parish priest at Guyra in mid 1931, which position he held for 18 years until moving to Uralla in September 1949. In 1952 he was awarded the Cross 'Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice' by the pope, having requested that he not be appointed a Domestic Prelate (Monsignor). Towards the end of 1952 failing eyesight and general ill health forced his resignation from that parish, when he was appointed as personal chaplain to Bishop Doody, living at Bishop's House. After 12 months in Armidale he accepted the position of chaplain at Nazareth House, Tamworth, but was only there for six months when the Uralla parish became vacant again, with the transfer of James Healy to Gunnedah. He asked to be allowed to return to Uralla (June 1954) and remained in the parish until his death after a month in Lewisham Hospital on 10 September 1955 for illness. He was buried at Uralla.
