Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 64:

Coll, Michael, Irish
Just Two Years of Priesthood

The All Hallows records state that he was born in Groom, Co. Limerick; being the son of Edmund and Joanna Coll. While in All Hallows he fell into poor health, developing a rasping cough indicative of T.B., and was compelled to give up in 1867. After a sick leave term of some three years, Bishop Goold decided to allow his subject to complete his studies in Sevenhill, South Australia, and at St. Patrick's College, Melbourne. Minor and major Orders would seem to have been conferred in September 1871. And so the frail and promising youth was sent off to Geelong. The last months of life January to September 1873 were spent at the gold-mining town of Castlemaine. There the cough became more rasping and so life came to a close. His remains lie in the lonely little cemetery of Campbells Creek, outside the town area. The tombstone states that he died on 12 October 1873. Tombstone inscription also reads: age 30 and "erected by priests and parishioners".
