O'Sullivan, Michael

Date and place of birth unknown. Details of education unknown. Place of study unknown [Sevenhills South Australia]. Ordained 8 April 1877 in Adelaide. First appointments were in Adelaide. He was a member of the 1883 Commission that investigated Mother Mary MacKillop. He then was based for a time at Kapunda, following which he transferred to the Armidale diocese, based in Armidale. The reasons for the transfer are not clear, although there is a suggestion he ran up heavy debts, Bishop Reynolds of Adelaide being forced to guarantee debts of £129 in January 1886. Within the Armidale diocese he was appointed Inspector of Catholic Schools and a Diocesan Consultor. For reasons that are unknown, he subsequently was admitted on some unknown date to the Liverpool Asylum, outside of Sydney, a hospital for destitutes. He died on 28 April 1897 at Liverpool. Place of burial unknown. His parents were living at Port Fairy Vic at the time of his death. A sister was a member of the Dominican Order at West Maitland (Sr M de Ricci OP).
