(Per Press Association). Oamaru, This Day.
The Rt. Rev. Monsignor McKay died yesterday evening at the age of 85 years, after a long illness. Monsignor McKay was born at Manffffshire [Banffshire], and was ordained at Paris in 1868. He came to Dunedin in 1875, after holding the charge at Queenstown and Wakatipu gold fields for 17 years. He was appointed to Oamaru in 1890 and retired towards the end of last year.

Personal, Grey River Argus, Greymouth, 17 August 1926, p 5, https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/GRA19260817.2.49:

The death is recorded in a Press Association telegram of a pioneer member of the Catholic clergy in Otago, the Right Rev. Monsignor McKay, who had reached the ripe age of 85 years. For the past thirty years he has been in charge of the parish of Oamaru, prior to which appointment he served for eighteen years in Central Otago, chiefly at Queenstown and on the goldfields of the Wakatipu in the pioneer days. Ordained almost sixty years ago at Paris, he came four years later to New Zealand. He was by birth a Scotsman, and was a native of Banffshire. He took a keen interest in the promotion of education, and in North Otago he was universally esteemed. Seven months ago illness compelled him to relinquish his duties, and since then he had gradually declined.
