Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 1, 1979, p 30:
Brady, Hugh, Irish
Hardy Pioneer in Bunbury and Elsewhere, W.A.
b. Castletara, Kilmore Dioc. in Jan. 1830; ed. AH; ord. '64; arr. in W.A. '66. Most of his career was spent in Bunbury between the '70's and 90's. A hardy traveller, he was sent on visitation to the Kimberleys in 1888-9, saying Mass and giving ministrations in lonely camps and settlements. He enumerates the places and poor results in a report furnished to his bishop. (Perth Cathedral Archives). The harsh situation would have daunted a man of lesser strength and Faith. Brady figures prominently in Ponsoby Cammilieri's 'Memoirs of a Kimberley Prospector, 1886-9' and published in the 'Journal of the W.A. Historical Society', (Perth 1964). Extracts are quoted in Footprints, Vol. 1, No. 7, p 29. In the '90's Father Hugh was the genial pastor of Subiaco. When he died on 17.10.1901 at the age of 71, historian Reilly later paid the glowing tribute: "There are few priests who have done better work ... there is certainly none less modest or less desirous of what is generally called popularity." His grave is in the Wembley Orphanage grounds (probably now in other hands and serving a different purpose than that of an orphanage).
