Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
MacPherson, Bruce Alexander

Date and place of birth unknown. He was educated at Christian Brothers College, Tamworth, where a classmate was Francis Le Fevre. Both men worked in the Tamworth branch of the Commonwealth Bank for some time before commencing priestly studies at St Columba's College, Springwood, then St Patrick's College, Manly. He then was sent to Propaganda Fide College, Rome, where he completed his studies and was awarded his Doctorate in Theology. He was ordained in Rome on 23 November 1958. On return to the Armidale diocese his first appointment was as assistant priest, Inverell. He then became private secretary to Bishop E J Doody (1962 to 1968). His next assignment was as Administrator of the Cathedral parish, Armidale (1968 to 1980). He then was appointed as parish priest Inverell, at which time he commenced the planning and construction of a new church for the town. That new building was due to be blessed and opened two weeks after he died, but was used for his funeral service. He was actively involved in the Inverell community. He suffered a serious collapse in the Inverell presbytery only days after return from a trip to Sydney, and was taken to Sydney by air ambulance. He died in the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney on 8 April 1983. He was buried in Inverell cemetery.
